Celebration and Gastronomy
• Montichelvo has a large number of religions and pagan festivals throughout the year. Are noteworthy the following:
• Festival of Mare de Déu of Róser, Crist's Perdó, Aurora and Purisima (first Sunday in May). In which people participation is the common denominator among the multitude of events, such as: "despertà", street lunches, verbenas, "els xorrets a l'eixida of processó" (starting procession fireworks) and the popular "processó de fadrins i fadrines"( Processions of Montitxelvo´s singles).
• Cultural Week (July). Giant Paella , exhibitions, sports competitions, theater, cinema in the square, cucañas.
• Fogueres Sant Antoni (January 16). The eve of St. Anthony's day Montitxelvo´s neighbours lit bonfires in the street. It is a very popular and long tradition festivity in the area.
• The Salpassa (Easter). This tradition has its origin on Judaic or before Christian time. Consist on the blessing each of the houses with salt and water in order to protect the house, crops or families.
• Els Altarets (Sunday Corpus). Floral Ornaments and tables decorated in all streets to receive the blessed Christ. It is very popular and colourful.
The Gastronomy in Montichelvo is notable for its homemade sausage, which is sold in the two village butchers and also it can be enjoyed in the restaurants Ca Colau and the Casa de Cultura, which are specialiced on traditional homemade meals. Also in February is celebrated the day of Les Cassoletes. In this festivity, the restaurants and housewives cook casserole rice in the oven, which is very typical of this area. It is remarcable the wines of the region, especially the famous mistela and sweets, (monjávenes, coques cristina, carquinyols etc.).
